Seashores (1)

For people living far from any sea shore, the waves and the wind are kind of out of reach. Ocean shores do have something magical about them. There are immutable, yet always different when you visit them. Canada has thousands of kilometers (or even miles) of coastline, yet most people don’t have the enjoyment of them.

Halifax waterfront

Like most countries in the world, the biggest cities are inland and away from the seas and oceans. People living there don’t get to enjoy the waves and the salty wind anymore. To counter that, here are some views of the Atlantic Ocean for you to enjoy.

Wandering around

It was time. After some ten years without according ourselves a vacation, this year was the exception. Or call it an overflow of everything. A recharge was required. So we put our heads together and decided where to go. From a few friends in my photo group, we had heard a lot of good about Nova Scotia.

Three master the Silva

In fact, I had heard it coming up a lot in the last few months and even long before that.

Five years already

Tempus Fugit. Like a real fugitive. The last time in New York City is already five years ago. As if it were yesterday. Back in 2011, I was invited to give a seminar about the programming of a shopping cart in a popular CMS.

Queensboro Bridge

It meant to me that I had to go to New York City. I know that millions of people live there and have no issues with it, for me, coming from a small town in Europe, this was a big undertaking. Mostly about deciding what kind of socks I should take.

In Flight…

It seems like the holy grail of bird shots is to get them in flight. In flight shows them off in all their glory and grace in the air. Right? Well, getting them in flight is more work than it seems. Lately, a person close to me went out for the first time with a camera. Having seen me with my camera getting all kinds of shots, it seemed only logical that she would also get the shots.

Rough-Legged Hawk

So she went on vacation and shot away. She came back with hundreds of pictures, with most of them either blurry, very blurry or with missed focus. I have to admit that this was a point and shoot that had worked for me plenty of years and was never a disappointment.

On the move

It has taken some time to start, but now it’s in full swing. No, I’m not talking about tax season, that one comes always too soon. I’m talking about the wild bird migration back into Canada. Many birds have been waiting out the long cold winter in a warmer area. But deep in their hearts, they prefer Canada. So whenever the temperatures go back to something normal, they fly home. Because after all, Canada is always home.

Herring Gull

So when they arrive here, either to linger around or just overnighting to go further up north, photographers everywhere unite (so to speak) to shoot them all. None of the birds is safe.
