Fortuitous encounters

Sometimes you think that what you can see at one given moment will always be there. Just to be reminded that these encounters are only for a one-time experience. You wait and wait to see them again, but the occasion never repeats itself.

Blue Heron

Often I have thought that this Blue Heron almost lived here. I got one chance to shoot it and have never seen it again. So here are a few of those encounters. It’s always interesting to see what story went on at that particular moment in time.

Tiny…

A few days ago I was going out with a group of fellow photographers. Lead by a photographer-biologist. Or perhaps biologist photographer. The challenge for the day was to shoot everything with a macro lens or in macro mode for as far as possible.

Dragonfly details

Usually I have my walkabout lens of 28-300mm on my camera but this time it got swapped for a 60mm macro lens. Fixed focus, no zoom but at least auto focus. The camera was at probably one kilogram lighter this way. Getting the shot, however was a whole different ballgame.

No birds, please

I seems like I have been serving too many birds in the last few months. True, it’s pretty easy to get all those birds to pose for a camera, nigh a bird that flies away before posing for a nice album-ready picture.

Blossoms

Of course there will be more birds here, but sometimes a little time-out is nice too. Summer is here, winter is coming, so it’s time to enjoy the sunshine and all opportunities that come with it.

A typical weekend

Turn it how you like, but in Canada we love our weekends. Even more if they have three days, but that’s not that often. Many times I think I need a day in between Saturday and Sunday to really calm down from the week’s work and troubles.

Grand Beach, MB

But, hey, everybody has the same weeks, right? If not, then please don’t tell me. Here is the story of one of my usual weekends, two days long.

Summer start potpourri

We have been waiting for this for a long time, but finally summer is here. The start was a bit rough, or let’s say wet. A camping weekend was half drowned, but much enjoyed anyway.

Rainfall

Heavy rainfall in many parts of Canada have caused trouble. Happily the camp ground where we were was high enough. But after that lonely weekend of heavy rain, the sun finally came around and started to heat us.
