Gone to the dogs

The Festival du Voyageur has come to an end and all that is left are memories and pictures. I have spoken about the ice sculptures and the ancient activities here, now it’s the time to say goodbye.

In a colourful way, of course. The Festival will be back next year, until then I count on lots of other photogenic occasions. For now, let’s say goodbye to the Festival, shall we?

Voyageurs…

Voyageurs are travellers, for those who didn’t know. Once a year they settle down in Winnipeg and have a party. A great party.

They’re back!

They have been travelling all year since last February and now they are back in Winnipeg. The Voyageurs bring with them a host of professionals in snow sculpting.

Looking for shelter

Getting shelter in unforeseen circumstances and environments is always a primary objective. When you get lost in the cold of winter, your first thought is to get warm.

Hay bales

And to stay warm. The standard, straight bus-shelter like structures simply don’t provide enough protection against the cold. Even more if you just got yourself a multi-kilometer walk or skate trip. This year again, Winnipeg organized the Warming Huts or Warming on Ice competition for the most original warming hut. Let’s see if this can warm you up…

Candy or Flowers?

Jacques Brel in 1964 thought more about the feelings of St Valentine (with a twist) and less about the eye. I will propose more for the eye than for the stomach…
