The time has come. Wintertime, that is. Now the evenings will come quickly and mornings will do the same. Cutting off a strip of your blanket that is already too short and sewing it on to the other end. Then pretend that you have more blanket.
That doesn’t fly with me. What does fly, however, is this:
now that the night is coming earlier, it will be easier to do sunset shoots, it will be easier to do night shoots and Milky Way shoots. On top of this, the weather here seems to still be stuck in summer mode, with temps of 21C at 9pm. At least for the next few days.

What more can you ask for? Probably for that damn cold and cough to go away. But hey, you can’t have everything, right?
Standing out
My point with Wintertime or Daylight Saving Time is that it makes no difference at what time we set the clocks. All we need is no disruption in our ways. We need gradual change in seasons, no changes going from shorts and t-shirt weather to all-you-can-wear winter gear weather.
Riot of colours
We need time to adapt, just like treating jetlag after a long trip. A few days, a few gallons of coffee and we’ll be fine. And then we notice that it makes no difference at all, only that certain opportunities come an hour earlier or later.
Colour as far as the eye can see and beyond
For myself, I know that changes like these make me sleepy. Just like Mother Nature is getting sleepy around this time of the year. Twice a year I find that my natural rhythm is off for a few days. Coffee or no coffee.
Morning tranquility
Mother Nature being sleepy is just one of those times when you need to get outside as a photographer. How can one pass up on this type of pictures? I know I can’t.
Panorama over a chunk of bush
I have been outside for days on end, just to take that one single picture that I find irresistible. Only to notice that somewhere else, there is more to shoot. My weekends outside have been way too short. I spent them in the woods, on the rivers and lakes and on the beaches.
Serenity
Anywhere I can find beauty, I will go and shoot it. Sometimes the beauty is evident as soon as you look up, sometimes you have to wait a little.
Contrast
All I know is that by now I am sleepy, just like Nature. Only I will have to get up in the morning and start my day, Nature can take it easy and wait for months till the next cycle.
I don’t need no Wintertime, Summertime, Daylight Saving Time. All I need are days of 48 hours because right now, I am sleepy…
Until next time…
